What Are Restorative Practices?

What Are Restorative Practices?
Restorative practices (RP) help us to develop and sustain strong, harmonious communities by actively developing good relationships, preventing conflict and resolving conflict in a healthy manner.
The Restorative Practice process entails having high expectations of each other while offering high levels of support for meeting those expectations. It is both a philosophy and a set of skills and techniques.
It is easy to adopt and use because Restorative Practice builds on skills that everyone has and provides a simple framework for using those skills more consistently and effectively.
People who use Restorative Practice as a way of working report that it makes their work easier, more enjoyable and more effective. Parents report better relationships with their children, residents report better relationships with their neighbours, young people report increased confidence and better relationships with their teachers, their families, their friends and their peers.
Established benefits include reduced workplace conflicts and school disciplinary incidents, improved staff morale, and higher satisfaction and reduced re-offending in criminal justice.
